Ukraine harvests 3.4 million tons of corn, average yields increase nationwide

As of October 9, Ukrainian farmers have harvested 3.4 million tons of new-season corn, representing only 15% of the total planted area. Despite the slow start, the country’s average yield has increased to 5.4 tons per hectare, according to data from the Ministry of Economy. Across the board, Ukraine has harvested 33 million tons of grain from the new crop, with 67% of sown area threshing completed.

Breakdown by key crops:

Wheat: 22.5 million tons harvested (threshing completed); average yield 4.5 t/ha.

Barley: 5.3 million tons harvested (completed); average yield 3.96 t/ha.

Peas: 626,600 tons harvested (completed); average yield 2.36 t/ha.

Corn: 3.4 million tons harvested (15% of area); average yield 5.4 t/ha (up from 5.08 t/ha last week).

Oilseeds harvested so far:

Rapeseed: 3.3 million tons (completed); 2.6 t/ha.

Soybeans: 2.7 million tons (56%); 2.28 t/ha.

Sunflower: 6.3 million tons (66.8%); 1.85 t/ha.

Sugar beets:

3.4 million tons dug up (35%); average yield 49.8 t/ha.
